Common Measurements and Prices

I shop at Kroger, Walmart or Rameys.  Prices are based on the average price I can get on the item.  Most of the time I get it cheaper buying store or generic brands or getting the item on sale or with coupons.

Cooking Basics:
All Purpose Flour
4 cups of all purpose flour is approx. 1 lb. If the flour is unsifted, it will be a little less because the flour will be  little denser.  I try and sift my flour before using.  
5 lb bag of all purpose flour = $2 if you buys store brand.  This means that is cost $.40 per pound, this $.10 for each cup of flour.
 
Brown Sugar 
2 1/3 cups = 1lb of brown sugar
I normally buy brown sugar in 2lb bags costing $2 each.  So, 1lb = $1.  
1 cup is approx. $.43.
 
Butter
I pay $2 for a thing of butter.  You get 4 sticks in each one, so each stick = $.50.
One Tablespoon of butter = $.065. 

Buttermilk 
1 gallon = 16 cups
Last time I bought buttermilk, I paid $4 for a gallon.
1 cup = $.25

Cheese
$3.99 for one a 1lb pkg cheese, shredded.
4 oz  = 1 cup of shredded cheese. 
$.997 = 1 cup

Chocolate Chips
1 12 oz bag = $2.50
each bag has approx 2 cups of chips, so 1 cup = $1.25
  
Cocoa 
$6.78 for a 23 oz container
1 cup = 4.5 oz so 1 cup = $1.33

Cornmeal
There are 13 cups of cornmeal in a 5lb bag.  So there are 2.6 cups in 1 pound. 
I can get a 5lb bag of cornmeal for $2.50.
So, one lb costs $.50.  So, one cup = $.19

Crisco
1 container Crisco = $5.00
1 container of Crisco has 7 cups in it, so each cup approx $.71.

Eggs 
Last time I bought eggs, there were $1.68 a dozen.
1 egg = $.14

Honey
1 lb of honey is approx $4.00
There are 20 Tablespoons in a pound of honey.
1 Tablespoon = $.20
1 teaspoon =  $.08
1 cup = $3.00 

Ketchup
$2.99 for 28oz container = 3.5 cups of ketchup 
$.84 = 1 cup

Milk
1 gallon = 16 cups
Last time I bought milk, I paid $3.88 for a gallon.
1 cup = $.2425

Oats
I normally pay $2.99 for a small container of oats.
There are 6.5 cups in each container.  So, one cup = $.46
  
Oil
Canola Oil:
1 gallon = 16 cups
Last time I bought oil, I paid $7 for a gallon.
1 cup = $.4375

Parmesan Cheese
$3.99 for 16 oz (1lb)
4 oz = 1 cup of cheese so 1 cup = $.997 

Peanut Butter 
1 18oz jar of peanut butter = $2.50
1 cup weighs about 4 oz so 1 cup costs $.56

Powdered Sugar 
3 3/4 cups = 1 lb of unsifted powdered sugar.
2lb of powdered sugar is $2.  So, 1 lb = $1.00
1 cup of powdered sugar is approx $.27. 

Rice
A one pound bag of rice normally cost about $1.00 at the store.  One cup is about 1/2 a pound of rice.
 
Self Rising Flour
4 cups of self rising flour is approx. 1 lb. If the flour is unsifted, it will be a little less because the flour will be  little denser.  I try and sift my flour before using.  
5 lb bag of all purpose flour = $2 if you buys store brand.  This means that is cost $.40 per pound, this $.10 for each cup of flour.

Sugar
2 cups of sugar = 1lb.  
4lb of sugar = $2.  1lb of sugar = $.50  1 cup sugar = $.25. 

Yeast
3 single packs of yeast is $1.15.  Each packet of yeast costs approx. $.38.
1 packet of yeast = 2 1/4 teaspoons of yeast

Meats:
Beef

Chicken 
I do not pay more than $2.00 a pound for chicken.  One chicken breast weighs about 4 oz so one chicken breast costs about around $.50.

Wild Game
If you can get wild game, it can help your budget a lot!  I have friends and family who hunt and fish and we can get a lot of venison and fish for free.  

Spices and Flavorings:
Basil
5 oz basil = $5.  There are approx. 12 Tablespoons in one ounce of basil, so there would be 60 total in this container.
1 oz = $1  So, one Tablespoon = $.083

Bay
$2.79 for a 2.5 oz container.  One leaf is approx .02 oz, so one leaf = $.022

Bullion
There are 25 bullion cubes in my container that I paid roughly $3 for.  
So, one cube = $.12.
  
Celery Salt
$2.59 for a 2.5 oz container. 
1 cup = 292g = 10.3oz = $10.67
1 Tablespoon = .64oz = $.66
1 teaspoon = .21oz = $.22
 
Cinnamon
$5.00 for a 18.3 oz container.
12.3 teaspoons in an ounce. 
1 teaspoon = $.0222
1 Tablespoon = $.0666 

Clove
$5.00 for a 1.5 oz container. 

Garlic 
Powder -- $6.99 for a 24.7 oz container.
72.28 Tablespoons = $.09 for 1 Tablespoon
216.85 teaspoons = $.03 for 1 teaspoon
4.52 cups = $1.55 for 1 cup

Ginger
$3.50 for a 1.5 oz container.

I could not find the measurements online, but using my container and measuring utensils, you get approx. 18 Tablespoons from one 3 oz container.

A 1oz bottle of maple flavoring = $2.50
1 teaspoon = $.42
1 tablespoon = $.75 

Nutmeg
$3.99 for a 1.5 oz container.

I 26 oz container of salt cost approx $1.00.  I am averaging store and name brand.
There are 48 Tablespoons in one 26 oz container. 1 Tablespoon of salt = $.02
There are 2.7 cups of salt in same size container. 1 cup = $.37
There are 144 teaspoons in the same size container. 1 teaspoon = $.007

Vanilla
4oz = $9.00 
1 oz = 2 Tablespoons
1 teaspoon = $.375
1 Tablespoon = $1.125
